AMPLITUDE

Advanced Multimodal Photonics Laser Imaging Tool for Urothelial Diagnosis and Endoscopy – Amplitude is a Horizon 2020 European project developing new ultrafast lasers that access currently unavailable wavelengths and can be used for label-free, real-time high-resolution imaging deep inside tissues.

AMPLITUDE-2020-2024-Research-Project-LABS

Objectives

AMPLITUDE is a Horizon 2020 European project bringing together partners from across Europe to develop multi-modal microscope and endoscope technologies that combine confocal and non-linear imaging techniques.  Motivated by recent breakthroughs in multi-photon imaging, Amplitude aims to develop a system that exploits the optical properties of near-infrared (NIR), instead of visible or UV light, to image deep inside tissues.

Outcomes

The project will develop novel ultrafast lasers that access currently unavailable wavelengths, and use them for high-resolution non-linear imaging and confocal microscopy. Amplitude combines the deeper morphological and structural information provided by these modalities with functional/molecular information obtained by metabolic imaging and Raman spectroscopy, in a prototype multimodal microscope and endoscopic probe. The goal is to deliver imaging systems offering unparalleled label-free and real-time high-resolution imaging deep inside tissues.
